Starting from Ouchi-juku, which retains the scenery of a traditional inn and is visited by many tourists, this is an exciting course where you can enjoy the autumn leaves at Ice ball pass and Hakase Pass and experience Aizu Hongo pottery.

Ouchi-juku (Shimogo Town)

Stay: approx. 60 min.

Ouchi-juku, which retains the appearance of an old-fashioned inn, is a sightseeing spot unique to Aizu.

Ice ball pass (Prefectural Road 131)
Best time to visit: Early November

Stay: about 30 min.

Prefectural Road 131, Shimogo Aizu Hongo Line, also called “Ouchi-juku Kobushi Line,” allows visitors to enjoy the autumn foliage as far as the eye can see. The old Shimono Highway runs through Ice ball pass and is now maintained as a promenade.

Aizu Hongo Pottery Experience Half Day Course

Stay: about 3 hours (including lunch time)

Lunch is included in the experience course, which includes a tour of the workshops as well as hand-building and painting.

Monzen Yokocho Misatogura

Stay: about 30 min.

The Takata Information Center is located in Aizu Misato Town and provides tourist information. The building contains stores selling Takada Umezuke, a local specialty, and sweets made from local ingredients.

Hakase Pass Best time to visit: Early November

Stay: about 30 min.

This mountain pass connects Aizu Misato Town and Showa Village, and visitors can enjoy the autumn foliage that continues all the way to Showa Village. Visitors can also enjoy the peaceful rural scenery of the Takata area up to the pass.

Ryukouji Temple

Guided SpotsStay: approx. 60 min.

It is a famous temple associated with Tenkai High Priest, who was a trusted advisor to three generations of Tokugawa Shoguns. There are the tombs of the parents of the high priest Tenkai in the precincts of the temple.
The temple holds the national treasures “One-Character Lotus Sutra” and “Letter of Date Masamune”.

Takada Hot Spring Ayame no Yu

Stay: approx. 60 min.

Hot water pumped up from 900 m underground is used. It is characterized by its resistance to cooling, and is effective for burns, chronic cuts, weak constitutions, and chronic skin diseases.

Hongo Hot Spring Yutori

Stay: approx. 60 min.

This public hot spring facility is located along the Agagawa River. From the open-air bath you can see Mt. Bandai, making it a popular hot spring for families.
