Aizu Hongo Pottery Experience
Season: January through March / Duration: about 5.5 hours
Visitors can choose a kiln in the Hongo area to try their hand at painting, hand-bi neri, and rokuro (potter’s wheel).
You can also have your pottery sent back to you after it is finished. It is a great way to make your trip a memorable one.
Painting Experience
Stay: about 30 min.
Paint is applied to already formed plates, teacups, mugs, etc. Each kiln has its own unique colors. Each kiln has its own colors. Let’s paint your favorite picture.

The hand forming experience, in which the shapes are made by hand, is easy and enjoyable for pottery beginners. The ability to create a variety of shapes other than pottery is one of its charms.

The best part of the pottery experience is the rokuro (potter’s wheel). The pottery making process is different from the hand forming process.

Kanzan Kiln(hand forming and hands-on experience)
The oldest kiln in Aizu Hongo ware. Mainly celadon porcelain, but there is a wide variety of white porcelain, carbonized porcelain, etc. There are various designs such as shiny and rough ones.

Ki-no-Oto Workshop

Many of his works are made with powdered glaze and feature iron or white glaze. Modern designs, buildings and plants are popular among women.

Suigetsu Kiln(hand forming and painting experience)
It features lovely painting using original indigo gozu and glaze.
It is practical for daily use and can be used in a microwave oven.

Irori Pottery

About 10 different glazes, including white and black glazes, are used to create a soft atmosphere. Works with motifs of red bears and cats are also popular.

Ryumon ware (type of pottery)

They are characterized by flowing patterns drawn by the melting and flowing of glaze heated at high temperatures in the kiln. There is a wide variety of daily-use tableware and other types of tableware.

Nobori kiln
Stay: Approx. 15 min.
This is the existing Nobori kiln in the Hongo area. Reservations are required to visit.
